Why We Chose Matte

Why We Chose Matte

Before we ever made a puzzle, we bought a lot of them. Not casually, but methodically.

We ordered puzzle after puzzle from brands we admired, hoping to find one that made us think, “Yes. That’s exactly how it should feel.”

We never did. The artwork was often beautiful, but the finish wasn’t.

Too many boxes felt shiny. They picked up fingerprints the moment you touched them, reflected light from every angle, and somehow managed to feel less premium because of it.

Once we’d seen it, we couldn’t unsee it. So we decided to do something different. We chose a completely matte finish for both the box and the puzzle pieces.

Run your hand across it and you’ll notice the difference straight away. It’s warm rather than glossy. Soft, but not slippery. A little like the cover of a favorite journal or a sheet of good watercolor paper.

It doesn’t glare under the lights. It doesn’t distract from the artwork. It simply feels right.

We gave the puzzle pieces the same treatment. Less shine means fewer reflections, making it easier to enjoy the puzzle from every seat around the table.

It’s one of those details most people would never think to ask for until they experience it.

But we hope it’s one of the first things they notice when they open the box.
